Political Parties
The question of how
political parties select candidates for election has been solved in different
ways. They may be selected in open primaries, by the party members or the party
leadership may have full discretion in their selection. In some countries rich
individuals can effectively 'buy' a seat in Parliament or special interest
organisations have a major say in candidate selection.
Whatever the selection method may be, direct democracy offers an effective safeguard against the abuses latent in
any system of selection.
