Separation of Powers
The separation of powers was already one of the cornerstones of the
constitution of Greek City States and the Roman Republic in Antiquity.
Montesquieu has described the division of political among an executive, a
legislature and a judiciary. Most modern constitutions pay lip service to this
principle but in reality there is insufficient separation of powers. In
so-called 'parliamentary democracies' the party that controls the parliament is
also controlling the executive. In addition, judges are usually appointed by the
executive as well and therefore can hardly be fully independent. We advocate a
stronger separation of the three arms of government by means of electing more
government officials and dispersing power among different levels of government.
Above all, the introduction of tools of direct participation of the citizens in
the legislative process the power of central government and politicians will be
limited more effectively.

Decisions you would be able to influence:
By giving the
reader examples of recent policy decisions we highlight the dramatic
impact the introduction of Direct Democracy would have on the
political life of all countries.
All the following decisions where taken without the participation of
the affected citizens. Some - if not most - were highly
controversial and have a negative effect for at least some major
parts of the country's population.
The present system of government
not
only leaves the citizens powerless in the face of a never-ending
tide of legislation, it also inevitably leads to
inefficient use of taxpayer's money and a steady erosion of civil
liberties.
